Baía de Todos os Santos
The saveiro (sloop), used for transporting passengers and cargo, has been for a long time one of the symbols of All Saint’s Bay. Many of them were rebuilt as schooners for leisure. Today they are very rare. Valença has depicted them under different perspectives and scenarios. This picture shows three saveiros in the paradise bay (All Saints’ Bay). The two ones in the foreground are anchored. The third one, which is sailing, is the central point of the picture. It is an example of impressionist painting, when the author captured the light effect on objects, but the details were absorbed in the vigorous brushstrokes.
